impyThis is going to have to be brief because I need some damn sleep (twenty minutes outside the Harris Teeter is not enough!) and the last four days have been filled with the suck and it's mostly kept me offline. Short version: Sunday, before going out, I noticed our phone wasn't working. I tried calling Comcast to see if they could work their voodoo before I headed out but after half an hour on hold, I gave up. When I came home, I tried again. Troubleshooting out the arse only to end in, "a tech will call you back." I was told that at least *counts* seven times over the last four days and it never, ever happened.
Anyway. They didn't call back on Sunday. Monday I gave them til 1pm and called and then spent forever troubleshooting only to be told (or Mom was) that we needed to get a new modem. Which involved driving out to North Charleston. Fun. Sooooo. Mom does. And then we hook that sucker up and I pass out because they said to wait half an hour before plugging anything beyond power in. Troubleshooting after that ends in, "A tech will call you back."
Tuesday, I call again. I spent a lot of time on this, guys. Eventually we got it from no dial tone to a busy signal and when you called our number, it just said our mailbox hadn't been set up instead of "disconnected or changed number". But then we were told another new modem was needed.

Mom swaps them out and after scarfing down lunch, I call and now the phone has no dial tone but still the voice/mailbox message AND the internet is down! But just for the computer! The kindles are fine.
We'll have a tech call you back.
Never. Happened.
I called this morning. One dude fixed the phone lickety split. Then I spent an hour talking to a lady who tried to troubleshoot the computer. Failures all around. Then another two hours on the kindle chatting with Ed who fixed one problem (apparently the modem wasn't authorized or something, I dunno) but said that since the comp is downstairs and the modem upstairs, this modem is unable to cover the distance.
Soooooo... now I need the world's longest ethernet cable. I'm in my room trying the short one out to make sure it works before I send anyone out to buy like, 50 feet of cable. (It does.)
All of this is to keep me from my Beforever goodness, you know.

Date: 2014-08-27 05:46 pm (UTC)I have an old school modem that I plug the computer directly into precisely because of this whole "wireless router coverage" issue. IDK if it sucks or not that I can only be in the internet in one room (because I can get other stuff done without the distraction of the internet if I have to disconnect the computer and take it somewhere else to do something), but its easier than trying to figure out how to work the wireless woo magic.
