AG June Release, Part 2: Truly Me
Jun. 28th, 2015 06:54 pmI'm just a little late, huh? In my defense, I spent most of last week exhausted. I never really caught up on my sleep and so I kept spending each day in a sleep deficit. Sometimes this worked to my advantage and sometimes I was pretty sure I was hallucinating the whole day. (Seriously, gay marriage is now just marriage? Did I dream that?)
But I didn't forget you! You know, all three(?) of you who seem to enjoy my little parties for when AG adds new stuff. :D So let's hit the modern stuff, which I'm sorry to say is a bit of a let down from the BF goodies for me, but it might be right up your alley?
I'm still a lazy ass and won't be adding Bitty stuff unless specifically asked. Sometimes I'm struck by it and sometimes not and even with BB getting a costume and the BTs getting PJs, none of it grabbed me. If you want to see for yourself, hit the What's New? page over at AG. That opens up on the Twins, btw.
Onward!
TRULY ME:
Hats:

Silver Sparkle Beanie // $10
It sparkles. It is a hat. There's actually some outfit running around on the grey market that looks perfect for this, but on its own, enh. It's not awful but I like shiny things so I'm biased.

Tweed Driver's Cap // $10
Are these a thing again? I mean, it's cute, but I haven't seen anyone wearing one in awhile. Flower crowns, however, were very big at Widget's graduation.

Fun Fedora // $10
And now all the people who bought the Beach set from last year just for the hat are screaming. :p

Rhinestone Baseball Cap for Dolls // $10
Item #CLT14
Her doll will be ready for sunny-day fun in this cute cap! It’s crimson with pink contrast stitching, and has a scattering of rhinestones on the brim and front. Features an embroidered American Girl logo.
It is a hat. A hat it is. Woo?

Striped Hoodie for DollsM // $14

Item #CLT12
The perfect layer to add to any casual doll outfit, this hoodie features a crimson-and-pink striped bodice, plus a foil-star print on the chest and back.
And now you can see what this looks like on #61 so you don't have to guess how you'll like it with her red hair! I kind of like it, but I think I'd like it more not on the lone redhead in the lineup.

Double Braid Headband // $20

Item #DKH72
This double-braid headband has a golden sparkle cord woven in for a touch of shimmer, and features a fabric-covered elastic back for easy styling. Made of doll hair in Blond, Caramel, Red, Brown, or Dark Brown.
Pretty sure red is still not 61's shade of red, btw. I don't dislike this one and if/when they go on sale, I might snag one or two. But at $20, I'll be waiting this one out. I do like sparkles, though.

Stylin' Bangs // $20

Item DKH67
These blunt-cut bangs clip into her doll's hair, making them easy to put on and take off. Face-framing fringe helps the bangs blend seamlessly into her doll's hair. Made of doll hair in Blond, Caramel, Red, Brown, or Dark Brown.
Gwen Bangs for everyone! Annnnnnnd I am not thinking I'm a fan. This way they can get rid of all the banged dolls and not have to make more in these hair colors because you can make your own for $20 more!
If you want hilarity, look at all the pictures offered for the different colors of bangs. Seriously funny stuff.

Terrier Puppy // $28
Item #CLF86
Every Truly Me™ doll loves a playful pet—and this cuddly terrier puppy is just waiting for a good home. She has soft fur and a body that can be posed in different positions. A magnet in her mouth lets her hold a favorite toy.
The dog bias is getting really old, AG. Really, really old. I'm curious as to how s/he looks not AG styled.

Flip Top Desk // $58

Item #CLF85
Bring the classroom to life for girls who love to play school with their dolls! This set includes:
An all-in-one desk with a bookshelf and attached chair—and the desk opens to reveal a clipboard to hold her school papers
A multiplication table, weekly schedule, and lunch menu
A chevron-print notebook with lined pages
Three loose-leaf papers and three sheets of graph paper
A starry folder with pockets
A pretend mechanical pencil
A green protractor
School-themed and alphabet stickers so your girl can personalize the desk for her doll
I'm glad they keep doing desks for dolls as it's one of those things I love, though I never buy. I'd be tempted by this one if space weren't an issue. I love that the desk opens to hold things and that you do have storage options with the shelves/cubbies. But this screams teacher desk (aside from the attached chair) moreso than student.

Sparkle Sweater Outfit // $30

Item #CLF84
Her Truly Me™ doll can show her unique style with this fun outfit. It features a pink honeycomb-knit sweater with raglan sleeves, a turquoise French terry skirt with topstitching and silvery studs, and funky blue boots with coral laces.
I... really like this, actually. I don't know why since the shoes don't really seem to go with it, although that feels like the point. I think it's because the sweater looked potentially see-through at first but upon super zoom close-up, it's not. And I'm a sucker for sweaters even though I never wear them because I go from freezing to broiling in under a minute.

Mod Monster Costume // $34

Item #CLF82
Scare up some Halloween fun! This monstrously adorable costume features:
A white long-sleeved dress with a sweetheart neckline, mesh sleeves, a lime-green sash, and a glittery spider-web graphic on the skirt
An oversized black-and-white felt wig—her doll's hair fits inside!
Black boots with green contrast stitching
A black “stitch” necklace
A paper treat bag
Somewhere, Frankie Stein is wondering why her mother looks so large and yet so young. :p I... kinda hate the wig (but I get why it's like that) but I love everything else so much that only the fact that I have a coupon for next month and I put it on my birthday list has kept me from buying. Well, that and it's $34, though I think it's justified as much as any AG price is.

Basketball Outfit // $34

Item #CLF81
Her Truly Me™ doll will be ready to shoot hoops in this active outfit! Includes:
A blue-and-yellow basketball jersey with her number on the front
Matching knee-length sport shorts
Black knit socks
Blue athletic shoes with yellow laces
Two yellow terry hairbands
A doll-sized basketball
Not pink, not purple, not teal. You're welcome, fandom. Bets on how long this lasts before it's replaced by one in any (or all) of those shades because it's not selling? :p

Sparkle Socks and Leggings // $12
Item CLF77
She can add some sparkle to any Truly Me™ doll outfit! Includes blue cropped leggings with silvery stud details, metallic diamond-knit knee socks, and pink ankle socks with sparkle at the tops.
I actually really like these. They'll be following me home sometime, I'm sure. Sparkle socks! And the studs on the leggings are cute, too.

Shearling Boots // $16
$16? Ahahaha, no.

Sparkle Sneakers // $14
Dammit, I like, but not for that price. Also I don't really think of this style of shoe as a sneaker but I'm not sure what I do think of it as?

Sport Storage Bench // $48
Item #CLF74
Game on! Her Truly Me™ doll can get ready for gym class with this set:
A storage bench with a flip-top lid that opens
A blue kickball
A whiffle ball and a softball bat she can really hold
A football
A set of purple-and-green gym cones
A two-tone jump rope that fits in her hands
Supplies for the teacher: a green clipboard that holds three skill sheets, and a pretend mechanical pencil for taking notes
Yay, sports. Abby and Kristy dolls can rejoice.

Hot Lunch Set // $28
Item #CLF73
When the lunch bell rings, her Truly Me™ doll can enjoy a yummy meal in the school cafeteria. This set includes a blue lunch tray with sections to hold her make-believe food:
A cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and a sesame-seed bun
A package of baby carrots
A fruit cup
A paper milk carton with a removable straw that swivels
A piece of string cheese
A brownie for dessert
A metal fork
A paper napkin
If you don't have a kid in public school, let me assure you that burger has a whole wheat bun and not some white bread with sesame goodness. And back in my day *waves cane* we had fries with our burger (french if you're lucky and sweet potato if you weren't) and our snack was the ever popular orange icy popsicle thing whose name escapes me. Also, that fruit cup there looks filled with specialness.
But in general, it's cute though I think this is something OG would be doing better since they don't baby proof their stuff. The irony of the cheaper brand not being as concerned that Precious is going to choke is killing me.

Science Fair Set // $32

Item #CLF72
This science fair set is out of this world! Her doll can show her love of astronomy with:
A doll-sized telescope with a focus wheel that turns, a pretend compass for star finding, and extendable tripod legs
Interchangeable slides for the telescope—your girl can look through the lens to see images of space!
A science-project display board with fun astronomy facts and a true-or-false spinning wheel game to play, along with a moon-phases wheel
Planet stickers for the display
A first-place award ribbon
Way cheaper than I thought it would be and I like that they included lenses for the telescope. I included a close-up of that because stars pretty, oooh, ahh. Cute set overall.

Hairstyle Tools // $20
Item #CLF70
She can create fun new looks for her doll with these styling tools. Includes a pink ponytail loop for making twist styles and a pink bun helper for the perfect bun, plus six metal bobby pins and a set of clear hair elastics to keep her doll's new 'do in place.
How does that bun helper work?

Recess Ready Outfit // $30

Item #CLF83
When it's recess time, her Truly Me™ doll will be ready to play in this comfy outfit:
A shimmery French terry dress that's printed with polka dots
Cropped leggings
High-top sneakers
A lightweight coral scarf with silver-colored edging and tassels
There's also an option to dress like your doll.
Sweet Jesus, why? This is one of those outfits I think they were going for simple and came out on the side of babyish. I can near Janet, Lila, and Jessica ripping poor Ellen to shreds when she shows up for the first day of school in this. Those shoes, though... they tempt me. No, I shall remain strong!

Slow Cooker Dinner Set // $58
Item #CLF71
Your girl can cook up a delicious dinner for her Truly Me™ dolls! This set includes a make-believe slow cooker—just like the real thing, the dial turns, the lid comes off, and the cooker dish comes out. Also features pretend food and place settings for two:
Pieces of chicken and broccoli that fit inside the slow cooker
Blue dinner plates
Green fruit plates
Metal forks and a butter knife
Tongs
Embroidered fabric napkins
A hot pad
Polka-dot milk glasses
Faux dinner rolls and fruit
A pretend bottle of barbecue sauce
A butter dish with a removable lid
I'm amused by the fact that none of this stuff is actually shown in any of its slow cooker varieties. I get why, because slow cooker food ain't pretty, but none of this stuff was cooked in that thing nor can you pretend it was without being WRONG. :P
That said, I really like the fact that their second picture for the product shows all the little pieces included, spread out. They don't always do that for the accessory sets that have so many fiddly bits, so well done. And yay for not having a meal for one, AG.
Overall, it's a definite mixed bag. I think they included a lot of different things but at times it felt too different, like there wasn't a unifying theme, which is weird since this is usually their Back to School time and despite a fair amount of school stuff (and lots of stuff in Girl Size at the actual stores) it still wasn't as cohesive as usual. That link, btw, takes you to Lissie & Lilly, where you'll see in store pics of a lot of stuff. Even when fandom makes me want to murder people, the webmistress there is awesome.

Date: 2015-06-28 11:31 pm (UTC)Recess outfit: I...can't get past that scarf thing really. Especially since someone said it Velcros in the back and is not even a real scarf. Because...why? I can't eve...ugh.
Slow cooker: Whoa, first time I saw this price too. Yeah, 60 bucks is way too much for me to pay for broccoli barf. Hell, that whole OG refrigerator set (that I still kick myself for not picking up, *sniff* was about that price.
And thank you again for layout!! Much easier than trying to find it all on the site!
