----

Lesser girls might crumble at the realization that their boyfriend was cheating, pretty blatantly, on them. They might cry, they might carry on, and they might come undone. They might even vow revenge to everyone within earshot.

Lila preferred not to announce her intentions quite so publicly. Instead, she went right to work on a plan. No one made a fool of her and got away with it, but there was no reason to make things worse by letting everyone know what had happened either.

"Lila!" She looked up to see Cara Walker hurrying towards her. Something in her eyes let Lila know that Cara knew.

"Not now, Cara. I'm busy," she said as she tried to sidestep her friend. She had no intention of hearing any gory details she missed by not actually seeing Bruce kiss Elizabeth Wakefield.

"Lila, this is really important," Cara pleaded.

Lila glanced around and then pulled Cara into the study, a room that was pretty much acknowledged to be off limits during any party at the Wakefield's. "If you're referring to Bruce Patman being lying scum, then I already know."

Cara's jaw dropped open. "What? How? I was there and I didn't see you-"

"Doesn't matter. I know about Bruce and the 'nice' twin," Lila hissed. "No one else needs to know, though. No one, Cara."

Cara's big brown eyes widened with understanding. "Jessica."

"Would be crushed. And you just know she'd take it out on Liz because she's so hung up on that world class jerk," Lila nodded.

"But he can't get away with this," Cara protested.

Lila smirked. "Who said he was going to? Which guys came here without a date?"

----

A few minutes later, Lila made her way back to the party. It didn't take long to locate who she was looking for and she strode over to a group of guys hanging out around the grill.

"Hi, boys," Lila purred as she sidled up next to them. Normally she had very little use for most of them, but today was special. She tried to ignore Winston Egbert's pile of hotdogs that he was clearly attempting to eat at warp speed in an effort to impress... somebody. Maybe Todd Wilkins who was clearly paying less attention to his goofy sidekick and more attention to his boring date. No, Lila had no use for them. Instead, she turned up the wattage on her smile and focused on Ken Matthews. "You guys don't mind if I borrow your friend for a second do you? Thanks."

Ken let himself be pulled away before asking, "What's up, Lila?" They'd broken up at the beginning of the summer and while they didn't hate one another it wasn't like they were chomping at the bit to hang out again anytime soon.

Lila glanced over her shoulder to make sure no one could overhear them. "I can't explain, but I need you to play along, okay?"

Ken was about to answer when Lila's eyes narrowed and a look of extreme irritation flashed across her pretty face. "Li?"

"Just trust me," she hissed before wrapping her arms around him. "Ken, I think it's time we got going," she said a little louder, knowing her words would travel.

Sure enough, several of the girls hanging out by the pool looked up, suddenly very interested. One of them, red haired Caroline Pearce, inched closer to the couple.

"But Lila, didn't you come to the party with Bruce?" she asked, her gossip senses obviously tingling.

Lila flashed Caroline a knowing smile. "Yes, and I'm leaving with Ken," she said firmly.

"But what about Bruce?" Caroline wondered.

Instead of immediately answering, Lila looked up at Ken and then pulled him in for a lingering kiss. "Who cares?" Lila finally said, and looped her arm through Ken's. They started to move away when they noticed a very angry Bruce heading towards them.

For a second Ken was worried he was going to have to fight Bruce and then he realized where just where they were. He and Lila headed straight for Bruce, easily done as the crowd parted before them, and just as they were about to cross paths, Ken casually bumped Bruce's shoulder with his own. Bruce, who hadn't been paying attention to how close he was to the new pool, went flying into the deep end.

"He's all yours, ladies!" Lila called out as she and Ken continued to walk away, never looking back.

----

Note: And this would be the third. I know it's a bit of a stretch to have Ken casually bump Bruce into the pool and have no one ever mention it again buuuuuut sometimes you just have to accept that in the world of Sweet Valley, continuity and logic have a very short shelf life.

One of the few things that didn't change in any of the various incarnations of this was the fact that Cara and Lila both agree that Jessica cannot find out about the Bruce/Liz thing. Cara immediately jumps to it destroying Jessica to know that Bruce would choose Liz over her and Lila would know that Jessica would immediately blame Elizabeth and that would be a big mistake that would take way too long to blow over. So while Lila also blames Liz, just a bit *cough*, she also realizes that it's better for Jessica to just not know ever. Plus this way Lila has the upper hand and comes out on top and Bruce, well, he'd just better hope everything he's wearing is waterproof.

And uh, I couldn't resist the urge to rope Ken in. Not even a little bit sorry.

Hahahaha! And that, my friend, is why you are the queen of writing Miss Lila Fuckin' Fowler. That was brilliant! :D I love the idea of Ken playing along, too, even though he and Lila weren't exactly...friends after they broke up themselves. It does make me wonder what he would've thought, to see her going from him to Bruce, but either way - WELL DONE! :D
