AG codes, sales, and reviews
Feb. 20th, 2016 08:26 amAG sales alert:
Free shipping on orders $100+ = SPRING16
20% off of $50 (may or may not stack with the free shipping) : check your catalogs if you're one of the chosen few who get them.
Samantha bundles: Sam is featured in two bundles that are $135 and include the doll and:
Fancy Collection has Samantha's Frilly Frock, her Meet Accessories, and her hairstyling set
Samantha's Puppy Play Collection includes the Bicycling outfit, New!Jip, and her Meet Accessories
You can stack the free shipping with those collections, btw, but they're only good through 2/22. I already have both outfits from one of their numerous stints on sale and I don't really want new!Jip so... I'll be sitting her bundles out.
There's also this PWP: Spring Dress, Headband, and Bracelet for $14 when you spend $50+
I'll be passing since that looks kind of... weird. I think I'd like it more if it didn't have the second tier, but I'm not fully sold on the whole look like you're wearing a towel thing so, yeah. But I do like it when store PWPs appear online in a reasonable amount of time.
Lea. Lea, I want you. But I know if I don't wait, there will be a universal code that does stack and I'll scream. But if I wait, there won't be a code, or it will exist but it won't stack. Why is there no comment box on the order form so I can say "Find the most evil one you can. One that looks like she makes other dolls cry. That's the one I want. Trust me." Because I think we all know I'm gonna end up with some sweet Lea while a hundred other people online get the evil ones and bitch mightily. :P
Finished Kaya's new mystery yesterday. Who wants spoilers for all three newbies?
Maryellen has the most... standard mystery? She uncovers treasure, people are after it, and only she and Davy can thwart the bad guys to save the day! There's some dancing and a little follow up on Joan's married life, but mostly this one seemed like it was ripped from a television show. And it references Treasure Island. A lot. Like a lot a lot. If you devised a drinking game for it, you'd need a new liver really fast.
It's not bad, though, and it reminds me a fair bit of Sweet Valley Twins mysteries, only without a twin. Definitely not the worst of the AG mysteries by far. I'm not sure I could recommend full price plus shipping, but if you find it on sale or you're in store, well...
Kaya's is the least standard mystery, in that there's no real bad guy and the mystery isn't all that mysterious. Basically, did you ever wonder what the Felicity Saves Penny storyline would be like with Kaya's sister as the star? Because it's that, really. There's no Jiggy Nye character, but we do have a cranky aunt that Kaya doesn't seem to understand WHY the woman is cranky (her husband has just died, not a spoiler) but she has no real connection to the horse mystery. Also, I know this is gonna shock you, but Ghost is not actually a Ghost. I will warn you that you may have Neverending Story flashbacks (you'll know it when you get there) but unlike just about every other Kaya book in existence, this one has a happy ending.
Overall, I enjoyed it but I'd probably get more out of it if I were horse crazy.
Josefina's is my favorite and it falls somewhere between the other two in the mystery department. You've got people up to tricks and red herrings and really obvious plot points, but it reads as an extension of the core series and that is probably why I liked it the best. It scratched the AG itch just right. You'll probably figure the mysteries out way before Josefina, but not everything is completely obvious. Which I enjoy in a mystery, btw. I like to be able to figure it out if I choose to try, rather than have the answer come outta nowhere.
I did try not to be too spoilery and I think I succeeded rather well, but still, be wary if you click. All in all, I'm happy with my purchases and I don't regret spending more than I probably should have because new books! And they arrived at just the right time for me to read them, actually.
If you're pondering what to buy with any sale code you have, might I remind you that odds are quite good that Addy's gonna get chopped this year?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go ignore the fact that I can't smell or taste anything and do my February Scentsy ordering from Cass. Also, I should eat something.

Date: 2016-02-23 02:11 pm (UTC)That said, it's been eons since I read anything of Kaya's but it's good to know I hadn't repressed some great horse loving aspect of Singing Rain. I'd say that Ghost represented some sort of freedom for her, but it's not like she doesn't already ride a horse and still requires a helper so... the part of Singing Rain will be played by Felicity this go round.
Which is just a really blathering way of saying I get why you didn't like it.
