MH Chatter #1: Abbey
Apr. 19th, 2016 08:10 amSometimes when I can't sleep for whatever reason, I count dolls. Not actually count them, but sort of mentally go through them and either see who/what I'm missing or which ones are my favorites. Stuff like that. Most of the time I'm out like a light in no time but sometimes all it does it keep me up even later.
With the revamp of MH on the way, and the Budgets having been in stores for about six months or so, I figured I might as well look back on each character and see which versions I love, which I loathe, and what I'm looking forward to or just want to snag at some point.
(I'm not sure whether I'll be posting pictures/links/whatever, but we'll work on that later. It seems that for the most part we're gonna go with stock images, at least initially. Woo.)
We begin with Abbey.
In general, I love Abbey the character. It makes me very sad that she's basically been sidelined for whatever reasons (maybe the ever shelf sitting Walmart exclusives that are still clogging up shelf space at my Walmart because they don't understand how clearance works?) since she's easily one of the highlights of any given special she's in. And that's not even counting her magic abilities. :P
Let's see. A quick perusal of her wiki Merch entry confirms my memory that A LOT of Abbey dolls look the same, even when they really shouldn't due to styling. The makeup just rarely steps out beyond pink lips and purple-y eye shadows. Which is a shame because Abbey looks AMAZING when she's wearing darker colors but for whatever reason they default to lighter stuff for her.
My favorite Abbeys:

I Heart Fashion is probably my favorite overall, from the fashion choices to the purple lipstick. She's just pretty damn spiffy, k?
I'm also really fond of Sweet Screams, again, because she looks so different. Abbey always struck me as the type who would wear what she wanted, when she wanted, and that means she should be able to pull off more looks. Sigh.
Oh, and I'm really fond of the Home Ick 2pack with Heath. Pretty standard Abbey, but I dig the ponytail and bangs and she just looks really pretty. Also, the great and powerful z brought her over on her visit a couple of years back, so happy memories. :D

Not sure if my love for my Music Festival Abbey is due to the actual doll or because she was a gift, but mine is super cute though she's wearing an entirely different outfit now. But lookit!

So cute. And such a shitty picture, self. Dammit.
Sig Abbey is pretty awesome in her own right and man, do I remember people freaking out over her when she first appeared. Memories.
I'm not sure where to put Art Class Abbey. Her chainsaw cracks me up and I dig the blue eyeshadow and different hair. She's also taller than most because of the shoes, if memory serves, but she's not one I immediately remember that I love quite so much.
Least Faves:
It should be said that more often than not, my least favorites of anyone in the MH lineup are still dolls I would enjoy unless otherwise stated. It's just that they can't all impress me until they appear in my grubby little fists. :P

I'm not fond of her Ghouls Rule look or her 13 Wishes look. 13 Wishes could've been amazing but really didn't end up that way. Her hair just looked absolutely fried everytime I saw it.
The meh?

Skull Shores. She was fab in the movie but the doll never did too much for me. I'm not sure if it was because she was too similar to regular Abbey or because she and Ghoulia would shelf sit at almost the same rate for quite awhile or what, but while pretty, it's just a meh kind of pretty?
Dead Tired. While I love DT as a line to an unhealthy amount, Abbey (not including her ice-scream) was just so-so for me.
Roller Maze has stand out hair, but I'm not a fan of the slime green they gave everyone for... no apparant reason? But points are awarded for shaking things up with the short hair and the green. Points are taken away for more of the same makeup.
Dot Dead Gorgeous is pretty much the epitome of meh for me. She's pretty! But she's not exceptional. In the three pack she's solidly in the middle. Not as cute as Draculaura but miles above poor granny Ghoulia.
If there's a higher end of meh, Scaris belongs on it. I dig the outfit and the overall look, but if I were going through and culling the Abbeys, I'm not sure she'd survive the cut. But I'm not so you're safe!
And she'd rank higher than Picture Day Abbs who gives me bangs (yay!) coupled with the same makeup. Again. Sigh. Ruts are for boring people (like me), not glamazon Yetis like you, my love.

Coffin Bean and Geek Shriek haven't actually been seen in person that I recall, so they're in the "maybe someday" category, especially since it's been so long since we've had a new Abbey. SO. Long.
Yeah, for all the build up for this, you would have thought the initial post would be longer. But I really didn't want to re-write this again and my laptop basically likes to do a thousand updates each time I look at it. So I put off looking at it until I have to and then it has all these updates and it's a vicious cycle. In any case, this is post one in the MH series. Bets on how long it takes for me to forget to continue it? :P

Date: 2016-04-19 07:59 pm (UTC)I get what you're saying about Scaris Abbey. I feel that way about MF Abbey. Sometimes a specific doll is just far prettier than others of the same kind.
Blue lips would have looked amazing. And worked for the whole look in general, really. I wonder if I have a double to try that out on. *muse*
And I'd buy a silver or raised fang Abbey no questions asked.
