Monster High Chatter #5, Rochelle

In keeping with the easier dolls (to keep the momentum going. I'm inching my way towards the harder ones, I think), we're gonna go with Rochelle. It seems fitting, since she, Venus, and Robecca are the secondary trio in the line, even if nothing has been done with them in a long while. WOE. I actually liked their dynamic and wish it had been shown on screen.

Rochelle herself is one of those characters I like very much, though in reality being friends with someone who is super nitpicky about rules would drive me insane. I don't break rules, but I am very big with the loopholes.
Looks wise, I think she's gorgeous. I like the combo of those shades of pink and blue (especially when it's a little more teal), and the grey works really well. Doll wise, she's got one of the cutest molds and... clearly I could go on. But let's jump into things, shall we?


Favorites:

Swim Class. Ignoring the whole "Rochelle sinks like a stone, ha!" thing, her Swim Class look is absolute perfection. I love the shorter hair, I love her outfit, I love the shoes... basically the whole look is happy making.
Ghoul Chat. Damn you, Kmart exclusives. Damn you to heck. Anyway, this is one of those looks that's really simple but really cute and I'm a sucker for cute. The cuteness is even more surprising when you realize that she's got the aqua lips and that's not necessarily a color that says "cute"... in lipstick form, anyway. Good job, Rochelle.
Sig. You know whose outfit gets used a lot by other ghouls around here? Sig Rochelle's. Partly because I have three. I got one when they first came out and her freakin' face lost a chunk out of her cheek (ohnoes), zallia snagged me a gorgeous replacement, and eventually Mattel sent me one as well. I want to say I sent one of the outfits to irishgypsie but I might be remembering wrong? In any case, Sig Rochelle is super cute with her worried eyebrows. She also looks different from doll to doll, which means that you might look crazy sifting through the boxes looking for the perfect one, but you'll find her.
Love in Scaris. While I could do without the giant-ass fascinator thing she's got going on, I dig the switch up where the blue is closer to her face than the pink. Just love.


Honorable Mentions:

Freak du Chic: Don't have her yet. Want her. Even kinda want that playset. Anytime I'm ready to buy, she's either not in stock or they've jacked the price back up. FdC is one of my favorite lines and fluffy, curly haired Rochelle going out on a limb is just love.
Scaris: I don't know where to put Scaris. I love her outfit. I absolutely love it. But she looks SO similar to Sig Rochelle, and they came out back to back, that I feel I should be knocking points off for that. But that outfit...

Meh?:

Zombie Shake. I think this is why I don't own Venus yet. Rochelle just looks... overdone? Not done enough? Venus looks delightfully OTT but Rochelle isn't doing it for me. I do like her dress. This one is on my to buy list but I've clearly been dragging my feet. Then again, her eyes do seem to glow...
Dance Class. I don't like the bun or most of the outfit, now that I look again, but I do like the purple lips. Has anyone restyled her? Why isn't a simple five second google search bringing up answers?


Nah:

GNO only wound up on the Nah (because no is too strong again) for a couple of reasons. One: I don't really like the plasticy bits on her dress. It's just not a look I love, especially with her scarf. Two: this is the biggie- she has the absolute worse case of glue head I've ever seen. Nothing has managed to tame it. Until this particular doll, I kind of thought people were exagerating but holy freakin' Jesus, her hair is SO greasy and NOTHING I've done has fixed it. :(


The One That Got Away:

Haunted. This one cheeses me off because I saw her available online twice. Once when she first appeared and everyone was just kind of "she'll show up in store" and then she sold out. Only to never appear in store. The second time, I was at work and couldn't order. She sold out and I never saw her again. Look, Mattel, if we're gonna be re-releasing things other than the main six in their original outfits, could we re-release the harder to get dolls? For the MIB people, just changing the boxes is enough to get them to buy again and for the rest of us, it means giving you our money instead of that guy on ebay who charges a kidney.
Rant aside, Haunted Rochelle is beautiful and I love her little subplot in the movie where she wants to swim. I really wound up loving the Haunted line, and movie, and it kills me that I don't have Rochelle. She might actually be my biggest want and I know I could go ebay her but... I like to whine, k?


Or I could have saved time and just put everyone who wasn't Haunted or GNO in my favorite section and called it a day. And those would be if I had them or had them and they didn't have issues.
Rochelle's a cutie and I like that despite her relatively small number of dolls, she's tried out a fair number of looks. If you stripped them all and just looked at the dolls themselves, you'd be able to instantly ID all of them without any real trouble. You can't say that about a lot of the ghouls, sadly enough.

I love every single Rochelle, although I recently sold the Love in Scaris one and maybe regular Scaris, too? I love some more than others, I guess. I love Swim the most and then GNO. She's like THE long-haired Rochelle for me and gets to stand with Garrott. And I love Dance Class's hair because simple elegance works for my idea of Rochelle. She's been redressed though, so that helps, too.

I need to get FdC. I was waiting for Target to lower it past $20 and they didn't. Then at Ross, it was $24, so no. Maybe Tuesday Morning will come through. Otherwise, I'll likely never get her.
