MH Chatter #8: Catty & Catrine

impyI meant to post Catty's roundup on Friday the 13th, but then I got distracted by waiting to see the SDCC exclusive and basically forgot. Sorry, Catty!
Character wise, I don't really care one way or the other about Catty. She's just...there. I'm okay with her going to MH because she burned out in her career and wanted to be normal. MH is probably a decent place for that once they get over the initial newness of you. I like that they made a black cat and that they've been using her in the line sporadically, so it's not like they did one and that was it while still using her in stories.
I do wish they'd work out her distribution better, as after Sig Catty, I don't think I've ever been able to count on seeing her on the shelf during a specific line's run. I didn't really venture into TRU much during the Londoom set, so I don't know about that (I got mine online), but not even BYBY had a crapton of her on the shelf. Nefera, however.... I dunno if that meant she was just insanely popular around here or if they split the cases weird or what. I'm still pissed they made her good/simple BYBY look so hard to get and I'll rant about that later.
Favorites:
Fierce Rockers: I actually had very little interest in the Catty side of this two pack. I was here strictly for Toralei, but honestly, I'm really loving Catty. I still don't buy the storyline they went with for this two-pack (seriously, you based a chunk of a movie on how Toralei can't carry a note in a wet paper bag, you expect me to believe enthusiasm is going to win over the MH crowd? Um, no.) but the OTT nature of the look works for me here. Well played, Catty. Well played.
Londoom: Look. I love me some Geri Halliwell and if you thought there was a chance in hell I wouldn't grab the closest thing we'll get to one of her more iconic looks in MH form, you're clearly not playing with a full deck. I dig the boots, I like the hair. In general, I'm pretty fond of this whole look.
Honorable Mentions:
Sig. Sooooooooo... I have a love/hate thing with original Catty. On the one hand, I think she's kind of a useless character. She waffles on her career so much that I don't really care one way or the other, and she also seems to have opened the door for way too many other popstars. Boo, Catty. Boo. But she's a black cat and I'm a sucker for black cats. Her outfit is just insane, but I kind of appreciate that they decided eff it, go big or go home. I could have lived my entire life without a mullet dress being forced upon me, however. I like the superstitious things thrown in (cracked mirrors, 13) and while she was a shelf sitter, she at least stood out on the shelf. I have a second that I might get around to customizing. One day. We'll see. I'm lazy. :p
Meh:
New Scaremester: I'm glad I have her, I think she's pretty, but I can also say that she's not super thrilling. I got her during one of Amazon's sales, I think, and I was surprised by how much I wound up liking her, but this is one of those cases where I'm going with the in general kind of vibe the doll gives off, and she's just... there. Mine hangs out with FCA Elissabat and they're pretty much inseperable. If Catty falls, she brings Elissa with her. That aside, there's nothing super stand out about her but there's nothing wrong with her, either.
eta: And since I wrote this last week, she's been growing on me again. Catty, there are so few of you that I have no need to cull you from the collection. You're safe, stop trying to brainwash me, dangit.
Nah:
Boo York, Boo York: Sweet Jesus, what is... I can't... what? If I ever wind up with this one, it'll either be a gift (and I shall love it) or it'll be because I'm a sucker for black cats and the doll herself looks pretty. I just can't properly articulate whatever the heck else is that's going on with this. The silver plastic... thing. The kitty ears on a cat. The gloves. The shoes. I just... I'm not a fan of too much plastic in the clothing and a lot of the recent lines have either been very simple dresses or super plastic overload. Catty is somehow both.
Ones That Got Away:
Out of Tombers/Fright Seers 3 Pack: WTF, Mattel. This is how Catty looks for most of the movie and then you make her impossible to find? D: Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? I want. I waaaaaaant. *rage whine rant*
Geek Shriek: Yes, this is Grandma Catty. Why don't you make the glasses line a specialty shop only line. I mean, that doesn't irk me at all. Oh, and why don't you make the second wave only available for like four seconds without warning? GRR.
Because there are so few of both Catty and Catrine, we'll be combining our werekitties.
Catrine. Catrine. You're so pretty but you add nothing to the long list of characters at MH. Nothing. I couldn't tell you anything about her beyond her being the stereotypical snooty French artiste. And that she's pretty. :P
Favorites:
Ghoul Chat is by far my favorite of the Catrines I own. She's so cute and this one at least makes sense to me. Of course she'd be friends with Rochelle, or at least friendly enough to chat on the phone. Scaris: Honestly, if she'd only been a one-shot, this would have been enough. She's gorgeous and while prone to serious eye wonk, she's still so stinkin' pretty that it's easily overlooked.
Meh:
New Scaremester: If memory serves, I never wound up with her because this line didn't really appear in stores and also because she was just so very... meh. If I'd missed out on Scaris, I'd have snagged her because I think Catrine is pretty, but I didn't so I didn't.
Nah:
Gloom & Bloom: Meh. Major points for the darker lips and makeup in general. She just... doesn't work for me somehow. I can't pinpoint why and it's not like I'd pout if she wound up here, but I couldn't ever pull the trigger when I saw her. She didn't have my instalove for the character the way Jane did, or the awesomeness to overcome the plastic accessory overload like Cleo, so she just never followed me home.
Got Away:
Technically I can still get her third party on Amazon (and want to) and she might even be at Big Lots if I ever make it out to look. Or Tuesday Morning. I really do need to do a toy drive by one of these days... anyway, if she lives up to my memories of seeing her at BL at Christmas, she's one that would actually belong in the Favorites section. So pretty!
