Welcome To Monster High: mini review
Sep. 24th, 2016 11:38 amSo I caved and watched Welcome to Monster High. Don't judge, my DVD is coming this Tuesday. Anyway...
I'll probably save most of my thoughts until tomorrow so they'll have time to gel but until then, I am left with so many questions.
For instance, where's Clawdeen's father? Why does her mother not have a name? What kind of monster is Raythe? I mean, I assume he's a take on a wraith but that's only telling me so much, y'know? Why did Clawdeen need a love interest at all? What's with all the lights and stuff when Lagoona races around? Where are Frankie's parents and why do we never even hear them on the phone or something? Like one night she goes out in search of a girl she saw transform into a bat and then she just never comes home. Why? What if Draculaura was just looking for a friend and not someone to dream up a school with? Would Frankie have just gone back home? Why does Clawdeen's family live in a den that they're so willing to overthrow for some closet space? (I think I'm asking why werewolves who can shape shift at the drop of a pin didn't uh, find a house. Anywhere.)
And that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
I reserve the right to either copy this next bit tomorrow or rephrase it, but overall I liked the movie well enough. I think we've reached the part in the MH 'verse where I prefer the movie art/animation to the webisodes (the webisode art is either stunning or stunningly awful for me, and it's pretty much a 50/50 split at this point) because this movie is, for the most part, beautiful. I don't think Toralei and Deuce actually look all that good 97% of the time, but they do each have moments where I liked the look. Lagoona's kinda the inverse in that I think she's cute most of the time but when they drop the ball, ohmylord is it tragic.
But as soon as I either start digging at all (see the wall of questions above) or forget to make sure my "IT'S ALL AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE" hat is on securely, my like is quickly overwhelmed by issues.
So, until tomorrow, I leave you with the knowledge that bat!ulaura is adorable.
