Blather, I suppose
Oct. 15th, 2016 05:05 pmUgh. Two more nights of work and it sounds like tonight's gonna be a doozy. On the plus side, BBW put their handsoaps on sale and I went on a bit of a rampage. To be fair, I've been waiting for this since I had to give away my last Black Cherry Merlot (my brother stole the other one, otherwise I'd have been golden) and realized pretty much all the soaps were dying at the same time. Oh noes! So now I'll have a small stash. I went with a mix of fall and winter and whatever the heck looked interesting. I'm a little less picky on hand soaps because if I think they smell funky, usually Mums or the boys will run away with them. When they arrive I'll share the love.
Let's see. It's weird to think that a week ago we were assessing the storm damage (carefully, it was still really windy and rainy) and now I just need to put things back to where they belong. I'd have done some of this sooner but a) work and b) the yard guys didn't show up til Friday and I figure their job was much harder this week. In theory. I'm not entirely sure how much actual work the yard guys do on a regular basis. Sometimes they seem to do a fantastic job and then other times you realize they've skipped entire sections of the complex. This is made even more noticeable when they do one side of a parking lot and not the other. :P
I should probably get started on Halloween-ifying the AG army come Monday. Maybe I'll bring a notebook to work tonight/tomorrow and work on ideas there. For whatever reason, I think better about these things at work or when walking the dog.
I do wish there were more clothing options for the Wellies. Anyone who sees something cute or even cute adjacent should let me know.
Oh, and catalog time which means some people are getting 20% off coupons. Got my catalog today and no coupon. Oh, AG. Just gimme free shipping and I'll buy some crap, ok? But without it, my options are going to be far more limited. Take my money, you fools.
Found out that one of the people at work is a Trump supporter. Not even one of the "hate Clinton, will vote for anyone else" types but actual supporter. I knew she was, uh, special but did not see that one coming.
Speaking of work, a small vent if you don't mind.
You might recall that last week they closed the store down Tuesday night. They didn't reopen until Monday morning, partly because I gather getting onto the island was a bit of a bear. Imagine that. Anyway, I had Sunday/Monday scheduled as normal days off, which leaves me with an entire week of work missing. Also, keep in mind that all the stores in the area closed. I want to say they closed everything between here and Columbia at least. And Columbia's pretty far to go for a commute.
Yeah, they're only paying us for two days.
Work giveth and worth taketh away. I kinda suspected this was going to happen but hoped that since they made it IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to actually go to work they'd do the right thing. Nope, nope. So they get to look like they're caring about their employees but instead it's just a big ol' fuck you to anyone who didn't have or want to use their PTO. Which, let's be honest, a lot of people probably burned through already because it's not like you can use it in Nov/Dec anyway. So you have a bunch of people who don't make all that much to begin with and now you're wiping out the better part of a week from their paychecks. If I hadn't been warned a couple of days prior to getting the news and hadn't spent last week bracing myself for imminent death or the possibility that corporate would continue their mission of sucking, I'd probably have done or said something stupid.
Especially when later that morning I got the results of my annual review. Months and months ago we were told you had to reach a certain number to get a raise at the time and also get the raise in the fall. So many things have changed since then that I don't know about the fall thing anymore, but when I did my review, I kept that in mind. I could be modest here, but what's the point. I gave myself a solid 4/5 and I'd actually go a little higher if I hadn't known damn well they'd knock my fives down. I should have given myself a five and hoped they went down to four because he said he graded this year's harder and I wound up with a 3.5 overall. But he kept saying he could've, maybe even should've, given me fours on the things I also gave myself fours on. Dude! If this is gonna fuck up my raise, you really should have.
And I suspect that this is due in part to him being new at this part of the job and also the non-payweek shift leads. Not as much gets done and I'm pretty sure that they threw us under the bus for it despite the fact that I do more of their job than they do/did. So he's not sure if the other shift lead just lets the fact that she likes working with me color her judgement or if I'm actually fantastic.
Dude. I am fantastic, let's make that clear. If I could find some damn shoes that didn't suck (soon I will go back over
luxken27's list and find something awesome), I'd be unstoppable. Also? I am not the employee who slammed another one into the drink coolers and closed the door on them. I'm not the one who united everyone in stupendous hatred. I'm not the ones waging war on weekends. I am nice to everyone I work with, I don't make the customers cry, I try and make sure that when I'm able to do so, that I pick up the slack wherever I can. If someone needs help, I help them. I know the store freakishly well. I... I dunno, man. If this wasn't possibly tied to my stupid raise (and it's gonna be small if I do get one), then I wouldn't care at all, honestly, beyond hoping that my score was better than K's. And even then if she never offered her score, I'd never know and it wouldn't be a thing.
A quick perusal of various sites proves that this seems to be an overall company thing so that's somehow better and worse. :P
That was a bit rantier than intended but that happens.
Struck out on the MH minis at the work Walmart. No wave 2, either. Sigh.
