Jan. 15th, 2019 01:04 pmFinally went through my makeup drawer which I should really call my drawer where lipsticks and mascaras go to die. :P I chucked a few and probably should have chucked a few more, but some I'm telling myself I have a few months to play around with to see if they did go off (those are more of a one try and we'll see) or if the color really is just what was I thinking. The mascaras mostly all fall into the "still good? Who knows til we try 'em" category, though I did get rid of one that looked like it had dried down to dust. RIP, Rimmel Black Sapphire. Pretty sure you'll be joined shortly by some of my Maybellines.
I think the only thing that ticked me off to get rid of were the L'Oreals I bought not that long ago and I was sad to have to chuck a few WnW crayons. Finally, Maybelline lipsticks have a very short shelf life, though not as short as those L'Oreal balms.
Oh, and I re-homed two to Mums who doesn't have a problem with the smell (mango/peach/something I loathe). But other than the drawer not exploding when you open it, you'd never know I got rid of anything to look at it. Whoops?
Been working slowly on my LT book that I won. It's... not exactly as advertised and it's not that it's bad, but it's set in 1993 and I'm probably more than halfway at this point and we've only recently hit anything that felt remotely like the 90's. I swear, I was maybe a fourth of the way into the book when I wondered why no one was using cellphones and then it dawned on me that yeah, there was a page that said 1993, right? Plus side, I like the main character and her family, so that's nice.

Date: 2019-01-16 03:23 pm (UTC)I've got a few metallic polishes that are very nice wannabes (Essie's No Place Like Chrome) but it's like comparing the shiny side of aluminum foil to the dull side. Nice for what it is but not the same by any stretch of the imagination. It might work for what you want though?

Date: 2019-01-16 01:17 am (UTC)I've had decent luck with my Maybelline lipsticks, though, so that worries me that I might need to be checking them more often.
I haven't yet started my LT book. I'm in the midst of one epic and don't want to start another one (my LT book is nearly 600 pages long, ugh). Sorry to hear yours isn't working out, tho. How hard is it to not make your background feel like wallpaper?! Especially for a setting in the recent past.
Are there at least choker necklaces and babydoll dresses and Doc Martens floating about?

Date: 2019-01-16 03:32 pm (UTC)I put up the WnW sale tags and thought of you when I found the one for the matte powder. Well, to be fair I thought of you as soon as I saw the WnW section but definitely for the powder.
Join the de-clutter when you have time! My first round I watched the Beauty News ep for the week and yesterday was Barbie on Netflix. Clearly I watch only educational things. *cough*
Nary a choker, babydoll dress, or Doc has appeared that I've noticed. I do believe there's flannel and things finally sorta felt 90's when a new character popped up. I think the problem is that the LT description makes it sound like it'll be more about the fallout of her bully's suicide but when I went to GR, their blurb is way more accurate. Had I read that instead, I'd have been better prepared for what the book is actually about.
I wish you luck when you crack into yours. :)
Pssst, as a person who knows more than I about polishes and things, have you heard/seen anything about any actual chrome polishes lately? I went looking and basically I found nada beyond the older releases and the chrome powder kits, but I figure if anyone would know, it'd be you.

Date: 2019-01-17 01:23 am (UTC)Now you have me curious about your book! What is it, that the LT description is so far off the GR one??
I haven't seen anything about chrome polishes lately, but I have lost my preferred veins of crack news about nail polishes, so unfortunately I'm not the most reliable person to ask anymore :( I'd say that you might look at metal-colored shimmers or microglitters or foil effect polishes, depending on the look you're aiming for. The last actual chrome polishes I bought were probably 5 years ago, and those I managed to luck into on a clearance rack.

Date: 2019-01-17 01:25 pm (UTC)Everything Grows by Aimee Herman Not sure if I just missed everything beyond Fifteen-year-old Eleanor Fromme just chopped off all of her hair. How else should she cope after hearing that her bully, James, has committed suicide? When Eleanor’s English teacher suggests students write letters they’ll never send, Eleanor writers to James. With each letter she writes, Eleanor discovers more about herself, even while trying to make sense of his death. or if LT added more. Goodread's little blurb before that is still way more on the nose.
I couldn't find anything about any chromes coming down anytime soon, but sometimes I miss the obvious. I think the last actual chromes I remember being widely available were the SH ones and I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing them when I had the chance. And now a moment of silence for the loss of the nail polish news. ;_;

Date: 2019-01-18 01:38 pm (UTC)I like the GR reviewer who said that "the nostalgia factor was high" with a book where you could barely find sign markers of when it was supposed to take place, haha!

Date: 2019-01-18 03:54 pm (UTC)Oh, WnW. Bring back your polishes. You're having a moment... make it head to toe, dammit.
*snort* Oooh, I missed that one. Maybe they just have a thing for the death of Kurt Cobain? Or maybe it's just that the 90's in SC felt different than the 90's in Jersey? It could be possible. I finished the book this morning but now I have to figure out how to review it.

I'm looking forward to your review, however tactfully you make it! =)

Date: 2019-01-18 11:42 pm (UTC)And... I'm not sure how I feel about WnW going all skincare. The cooling stick, however, looks interesting. That I might actually try. But if they can make dry shampoo, why the frick aren't they going for the head to nails approach, dammit?
