halloween hunting we will go
Sep. 13th, 2016 07:08 amDid you miss me? It's okay if you didn't.
So I did get to go Halloween hunting yesterday, even though I was pretty much falling asleep on the way to the bank. I don't know if the benedryl kicked in and was making me sleepy (it's a 50/50 shot on whether I get tired when I take it) or if it hadn't and my sinuses were just deciding to mess with me even more and go for full on puffy eyes. Yay.
Side note: I did re-try the WnW green mascara. It didn't flake off at anytime during my trip, so that's good, but it's definitely dark green with only a hint of color, so definitely not what I was hoping for. C'mon, holiday collections. Bring me some fun mascaras, dammit.
Hit the north area Target first and -spoiler alert- it was the best part of the trip. The dollar spot section was set up with all Halloween/fall/Thanksgiving stuff and I immediately pounced because duh. They had the usual beakers and test tube glass jars, The Witch Is In/Out signs, other cute signs, chalkboard accessories out the wazoo, um... fun stuff, really. I grabbed a few things to try (we'll mention them at the end) and I'm kicking myself for not grabbing the $3 candelabra 'set' because I assumed, like a fool, that my Target would have it, too. They did not.
The weirdest part of the trip was that going in that Target usually trips me out a little because it's set similarly but not identically to mine. Uh, yeah, they must've changed things around since the last time I went in because if I hadn't passed the giant red balls outside and remembered Mom saying she'd meet me outside the tobacco store, I would have sworn I was in my Target. Yet when I was actually at my Target? It was like being in the north area one. Very weird. I'm also concerned for my Target because it hasn't been all that long since I was there and it's ...really rundown. I swear, my last Target run was within two months (less than that, I think) and it looks like hell. D:
Anyway. Went by the toys just to see what was what. Nothing on sale that I could tell and I was there for Halloween, so I waved to the DC girls, wished the EAH ladies good luck, and patted the MH boxes before heading off. (And yes, a longing sigh for the Neon Lights Ball Descendants.) First stop, candy. Grabbed a bag of boo-terscotch (terrible name) m&m's. For science. Saw the Halloween Barbie. Promptly forgot what she looks like. Wandered around a little and past the costumes. Found the Sinful Colors polishes on a siderack but they didn't look new, so I passed. They were very much in the swing of putting stuff up, so I tried to not set things off (sorry about the telephones that are motion activated, guys!) and immediately scooped up something I really don't need but it was too pretty to leave behind. Saw the studded pumpkins from last year and the animal skeletons must've been a big hit because they had all kinds this year. Cute jack-o-lanterns and a few sugar skull animals tempted me but I resisted. My store had almost none of this, btw. Costumes and candy, yes, but not the rest. They did have the alligator skull but that was about it.
Looked for sauce for Mom, noted the bedding on clearance as well as the dishes, and grabbed a litterbox for the boy's kittens and catnip jack-o-lanterns for Ozma and the kittens.
Walked out with the cat stuff, the m&m's, two boxed of warm white rice lights (these actually work really well, so I recommend snagging if you're interested), two packs of wall bats (without realizing they each had 18 bats inside. WTF am I gonna do with 32 bats plus all the ones I've gotten over the past couple of years? Have fun, I guess), an 8-pack of glittery pumpkins that I really don't need but they were silver and black and weirdly metallic 'lace' and I could not say no and mean it, and some JoL bags that I'll see if they work as luminaries or not. If not, boo bags for people!
Went to AC Moore where they had the slimmest pickings, but they did have possibly the prettiest thing I did not buy. Mason jars where the bottom looks like mercury glass and when the light hit it just right, it was like the night sky was captured in the bottom. If the effect had gone up a little higher or I'd had a coupon? Mine. Otherwise, meh. This is the place I need to return to if I'm getting a Halloween flag, though. Remember that, self.
Michael's! I'd planned on getting a funkin or the haunted house tealight holder I fell in love with around my birthday. I wound up with neither. I couldn't/can't remember what I wanted to do with the funkin other than it was to be outside (anyone got any ideas?) and the $3 difference between 40% off and 50% off was too much for me on the haunted house. Again, I'm fairly certain that I don't really need indoor decorations but I do need outdoor. And yet I can't figure out what to do. I'm hoping the Michael's by my house has the stuff I want after I get paid but if it doesn't, I'll only be a little sad. I think.
All in all, it wasn't a bad hunt if you ignore the weirdly neglected state of my Target. The cafe was closed (but not forever, just lights off and no one there. It was weird) and the lights in the store were dimmer than usual. It felt very strange because I can't remember our store looking that bad. Trashed after a holiday, maybe, but that's a different look/feel.
