mini AG review
Nov. 26th, 2016 10:18 amLonger review on a day when I feel less... weird, but I watched the Maryellen movie yesterday and here's the short review.
Unlike Melody's movie, it doesn't veer completely into AU territory. Changes are made, like they are for all of the historical movies, but it's not whiplash inducing. The mother/daughter dynamic is the best thing the movie has going for it, also like Melody's movie, and I may be a little bit in love with Mary McCormack. She is also the best thing in the movie.
I kinda want the further adventures of Joan Larkin, who did undergo a bit of a personality shift from the books.
Maryellen herself is a mix of adorable and, well... How much do you enjoy it when actors look almost at the camera, tilt their head to the side and make the "ah, yes, I am brilliant for thinking of this important plot twist we'll cut to in just a second" face? Because there's a stretch of movie where that happens almost anytime she's on the screen. Really.
But overall, it's cute and you could do far, far worse. (Molly, I'm talking to you for the historicals and uh, otherwise just pick a GOTY movie if you hate yourself.)
