Jun. 1st, 2019 11:29 amIt's National Nail Polish day and I was going to take a picture of my polish collection but it's in plastic storage containers and I'm too lazy to try and make it prettifuls. But if you wondered what colors I'm wearing because you're bored, like me, I have Zoya's Willa on most of my left hand, as that's what I was wearing for Red Nose Day (it goes well with red since it's a black polish), and the rest is KL Polish's Casino Night, which is probably the prettiest gold glitter I've worn in awhile.
In honor of the day, let's discuss my polish habits because why the eff not, right?
Once upon a time, I would go to the store and buy whatever color struck my fancy, provided it wasn't stupidly expensive. I gotta tell you, $9 is about my cut-off for polish, btw. If you clicked on Willa and are now saying, "uh, that says $10..." I must remind you that I never buy polish for full price once it's above the $8 mark. All my Zoya purchases are during sales because $10 for polish hurts my soul. But back to the store.
Sometime before we moved, I realized that I'd managed to buy at least two bottles of the exact same polish and I had it duped in just about every brand that I could easily find. This is a pretty good example, actually. Only I think my revelation came via two bottles of a Revlon polish. Thinking back to the last time I went through the polishes, which wasn't that long ago, I'm not sure... any of those bottles are still rolling around. Huh. Teal and purple duochrome was my jam. Still is, I just managed to lose all the proof it seems. :P
I kinda go by seasons with my polishes, but moreso for the colors I don't typically gravitate towards. Like pinks and reds are far more policed than say, black or glitters which I'll wear any damn time at all. I don't tend to do neons in general, and pastels are the polishes I buy and think they look lovely in the bottle and sickly on me. I'm far more likely to wear metallics, glitters, chromes, or anything fun before I break out the cremes, with the exception of a good, solid black. Since my habit of using a top coat as a base coat tends to result in my polish just peeling right off, glitters prompt no fear from me to the degree that I keep forgetting it's a thing for people who aren't cruel to their nails. My problem with glitters is that they tend to be rough and since I bite my nails when they're not smooth... yeah.
This probably lead to my changing my mind on top coats. I still think a truly good polish doesn't need one, but I tend to throw one on everything now. Which is why I finally caved and bought a matte one so I have that as an option, too. Usually mattes aren't my thing, but every so often one likes the option, y'know?
And I've bored myself so we'll stop. But I must say that I like to compliment people on their nail color choices because when I do, it's genuinely because I like it and they always get this grin, even if it's just for a split second. Even the girl who then told me in graphic detail why the nail salon down the road was never to be used because of what they did to her nails when she had the color I just complimented done. Even she had a split second of "someone noticed!" happy.
