*eyes the tropics* Seeming a little...full over there, aren't you? Hmm.

Anyway. I've been quiet because work this week was less than ideal. I'll try to keep this short for my own sanity.

I might've mentioned that Y "quit" right after my birthday vacation ended. And by quit, I mean she just stopped working at our store, and even then she came back and worked a few shifts anyway. But she stopped working reliably as our only overnight SFL. They hired two people and since I try not to name names, especially before they've proven whether they'll stick or not, we've got:

Sleepy. Because she goes out to her car for her breaks and if you don't send someone with or after her, she will fall asleep and be out there for more than an hour.

Spacey. Y did a little overlap with her before quitting and spread a rumor around that Spacey was drinking on the job. I don't think she does, but I was also literally the last to know when H, back in the day, was drinking very obviously on the job to the point she ended up in rehab. Anyway, I do think Spacey is just... spacey. She loses her glasses at every turn, she's easily confused at times, but means well. I like her and so does K back in pharmacy.

Spacey doesn't want to do the traditional 3rd shift SFL shift, which is basically 7 on, 7 off. Sleepy says she's game. So they hired Newbie who is LOUD and related to a SFL at another store. Newbie also says she wants to work the normal shift. Cool, cool. Except when she and Sleepy work together, I wind up alone in the store (not counting pharmacy) without realizing it and I'm calling for help that will NEVER COME because they're out smoking in/at their cars. I don't mind people stepping out for their breaks but let a bitch know first, k? Because I'm good at my job but I have limits that I cannot work around, k?

I truly do not see Sleepy or Newbie working out. I wasn't sure on Newbie til Sleepy left us alone Saturday night and Newbie made good on her vow to not do shit other than ring people up while I did the facing and finished the tags. Sleepy is uh, kinda obvious why I don't think she's gonna work out.

I will say that *thinks* Thursday when they went out for breaks together and didn't let me know, I damn near quit right then and there. I had a line backed up to the coolers, I had a void that had the dude been one of our regulars would not have worked out with my workaround, and I basically was left alone for long stretches of time without warning while Sleepy was on break off and on (more on than off) for the better part of four hours. I was stressed and fuming because we still had truck to put up and nothing was getting done and at this point I hate Thursdays so much because they're SO BUSY and no one realizes this.

It didn't help that I was told Spacey would be back Thursday, then Saturday, and yet she was off all week for whatever reason. K and I reasoned together that maybe it was because she's taking next weekend off and needed her days to line up better. *shrug*

Yeah, that's the short version. My bosses this week didn't work and I don't want that blowing back on me.

I also had to deal with Comcast. It's that time of year where my promotional pricing was about to end, so I thought I'd get ahead of it. Yeah, that wasn't so much fun. I basically had very, very limited options and essentially cut my cable. Sadly I didn't think this through quite enough so no Monster High for me. Then Widget and I had to try and set up the new modem, which would have been easy peasy except I think the tech two visits before put the cable in so tight that no one's been able to undo it. And I'm including the last tech. So unless I want to gamble with having to pay $100 to get someone to undo the damn thing and then tell the higher-ups that no, there's no way my ass could've done it and I shouldn't have to pay the fee, I'm just gonna have to use that cable. Which is...not great but it's not terrible. Then I had to order the streaming box because for whatever reason that wasn't ordered at the same time. That came Friday so Widget and I set it up Sunday after work.

It's also been hot as hades, though not quite as hot the last couple of days. Still, too hot for the swimming. Actually, could've gone Sunday morning but a) the last weekend before school starts is basically a holiday weekend and b) my period say HI.

I've been working my way through the Sweet Magnolia books and holy fuck they're terrible. I think I'm stopping at book 4 because the reviews and synopsis for book 5 are so bad that I think even people who enjoy this series have signs around it saying, "No. Just no."

I must admit I'm bummed though because I'd hoped to like the books and use them to deal with the offtime between seasons, though with the strikes it could be that we never get another season. But after the first book, which wasn't great but wasn't absolute shit, and had a solid idea for a series, the other three have had...issues. I might rant about them later or I might just leave that in my Goodreads reviews. I will say that I think this joins a very small group in which the adaptation is better than the books. It's like the series took book 1's plot and changed a few things, took the names and characters from books 2 and 3 and then said yeah, no, we're not doing that shit to most of the plotlines.

So it joins PLL in the show being better than the books, though I will say the first however many PLL books were very, very easy to read and I enjoyed their sheer Whatthefuckery. I did not enjoy the wtf that was the Sweet Magnolia books.

*insert obnoxious are you ready for some football sound here*

I wonder how much the AG social media people hate new release days? Does the company pay them hazard pay? Double? Perhaps offer a nice drink of their preference for dealing with the absolute fuckery that accompanies a new release?

I ask only because I've been watching the AG FB post on this release and it's basically gone from a few "hey, this is cute!" and tagging people to people very quickly realizing that all teams are not being treated equal. Basically, if you don't see your team in this photo, your team got a t-shirt. And not anything fancy, either. We're talking something that made me think you could get better from Amazon, though I don't know how true it is. Inflation's a bitch.

I mean, look at that. It's giving me printed at a mall kiosk vibe.

I'm not surprised the Panthers are in the shirt only section, but I am disappointed on some level. I have very, very little connection to them beyond them being the local team and my brother and I taking time from one of our hurricane runs to see the stadium, but still. Comparing the shirts to the fan gear and the cheerleading outfits, it's definitely a big difference. Chiefs fans are NOT happy to be included in the just a t-shirt camp and I can't say I blame them.

I do wonder how they decided which teams would get what. I'd imagine some were probably no brainers that they'd get more than a tee but others had to involve a little back and forth, right? *muse*

And today I learned the Packers don't have cheerleaders because that's come up multiple times.

See? AG promotes learning!
