Attention! Would any of you be interested in 'hosting' a Flat Stanley for my nephew's class project? His teacher will mail you a Flat Stanley, instructions, and pretty much everything you'll need, I do believe. You'd take FS out, show him your town, take a picture or twelve... I dunno, probably not get him drunk, though. That would be awkward afterward. It would mean a lot to Widget and to me (cuz then I could gloat about your awesomeness, you see) and it could be fun. If nothing else, you'd get to impress a class full of second graders.

Lemme know.

Now, if you need me, I'll be reading Liar.

Don't think I'm a complete dolt, but I totally had to look up what a Flat Stanley was. And I call myself a children's book editor!!

I'd totally do this. Flat Stanley can visit me, we'll go on trips to some New York landmarks and maybe I can even bring him around to some of the children's book publishing companies where my friends work (like Scholastic). Hey, why not, right? I don't have a job or anything. LOL!

I think you have my current address (30th Street) but let me know if you need me to re-send.

If not for the years of Scholastic book orders (and the fact that Widge scored two $1 FS books recently) I'd have no idea who he was either. Apparently he's a BIG thing because they'll be using him as a teaching opportunity (gasp!) for the rest of the year.

And yay, I'm glad you said yes. :D Double checked and your address is good to go. Thank you!

I know who he is because I develop pictures of him ALLLLLLLLLLLLL the time! How many people did you need to do this?

I keep forgetting to comment and open the discussion about Liar. What did you think? I DID NOT like it. I read it for a book group and also because of the unreliable narrator (I was curious how that was handled) but I ended up feeling very dissatisfied and betrayed by the plot. I loved the voice - Justine's skill is obviously great. And I totally called the werewolf thing IMMEDIATELY and felt uber-vindicated/nerdy when she confirmed it in Part Two! But in the end I was left feeling blah and like the story was just too much...stuff.

I dunno. What did you think? Maybe once I hear what you thought I'll be able to word how I felt better.

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I didn't totally call the werewolf thing (I called it more in that way Patricia Cornwell dealt with it, but not actual shapeshifting) and I liked that it never went full blown... genre/supernatural, I guess? I can see why this would irk people, but it was a nice change.

But it felt like once that was let out of the bag, she didn't seem to know where to go with it, especially with the little brother aspect that sort of felt tacked on, which isn't the way I'd think you would want something that should have been really important. Things just felt really unfinished. Like you knew the book was supposed to take you running towards a cliff and you suspected that it wouldn't stop at the edge, you'd be expected to jump off, too. So you do. And then you never land. There's no real resolution, which I expected, but I did expect there to be something else.

There's a difference between leaving you wondering if she's telling the story from jail or a mental hospital or actually what she says. That ambiguity I don't mind. But it felt like something was missing. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been so built up beforehand. Author love, though.

Hmm. That was a fun ramble, but not worded especially well. :P
