Today it's time for another random stuff roundup. Wherein I blather on about, you guessed it, random stuff.

1. If you shop at Walgreens and haven't heard, they're unleashing Balance Rewards which is their loyalty card program. I'd call it the W card, only that's something else. :P Anyway, you can sign up online and go cardless (you'll just either have the cashier scan your smartphone's virtual card or you'll enter your phone number on the debit/credit pinpad) or you can sign up and get an actual card on Sunday, September 16th. If you sign up online you won't get a card (though later you can have one added to your account; they will not be mailing you one, however) but you could win extra points.

This is important because: As of September 30th, to get any sale item for the sale price, you'll have to be a member of the Balance Rewards program. Please do not take your paranoia out on your cashier; they don't like it any more than you do.

On the less paranoid side, you'll earn points on most of your purchases (gift cards, tobacco, alcohol, dairy, and postage stamps are not eligible for either earning or redeeming points) and once you hit 5,000 points you can redeem your points and use them essentially like cash. (That'd be $5.) You can redeem up to 40,000 points ($50) in one transaction but you cannot redeem and earn in the same transaction.

Essentially: Sign up, swipe your card/enter your phone number each time you shop, earn points, redeem points to buy shiny things. Be nice to your cashier.

Normally I don't do these types of things for work, but in this case I know some of you actually shop at Walgreens and not all of you are crazy coupon people so you might not know.

Personally, I'm a little ambivalent about the whole thing because for all the pluses, there are some serious minuses going on. Namely, I'll still have to scan store coupons (weekly ones) for people. Sigh. On the other hand, I like free stuff.

2. In that same vein, it is creepy as hell to get an email from a company you just shopped at and have them recommending things that you just bought. o_O (In this case, it's Walmart telling me to buy another flavor of Gatorade and kitty litter.) Creepy!

3. My MLP trade is not going well. I'm not sure if my end showed up there or not, but I am still waiting for Sassaflash. :/ WOE.

4. Ozma kitty has taken to hopping up on the chair and trying to peer over my shoulder at the computer like "hey, whatcha doin'?" The cute, it burns!

5. I'm trying to grow my nails out. This would be easier if they didn't grow in weird. Must not bite nails! I have too many nailpolishes to not use them now.

6. I hate allergies. I went decades without having them and now, now I'm sneezy. It's no fun.

Trying to grow in nice looking nails can be really hard. Have you tried gel nails? You get them at a salon, but they're less expensive and better for your nails than regular fake claws. With claws they scrape your nail way down and then glue the fake nail onto it before shaping and polishing, so if/when you take them off your real nails are really weak, but with the gels they just paint a couple of layers onto your existing nail, building them up more naturally. And you can paint them like you would regular nails.

I'll have to keep that in mind. *files away for future use* Right now I'd be happy with them just not being quite so short. Not much longer to go. I just need to find my file so I can shape them out of the sharp angles they seem to grow in with that leads me to biting them out of annoyance.

Oh, God, loyalty programs that are that complicated suck - and suck hard >:( I hate it when stores force you to get the card in order to get the sale prices! Bleh, bleh, bleh.

I hope the transition for you guys on the floor isn't *too* painful, LOL :P

I actually don't like long nails, myself (comes from too many years of playing musical instruments, LOL, when long nails just hinder you), but good luck as you try to grow yours out! Mine start peeling at a certain length and its just not that great :( though it does give me an excuse to change my manicure often, LOL.

Allergies are of the devil, I tell you. My kingdom for a Claritin-D!

The thing I don't get is that they'd been planning this loyalty program for years. They piloted it elsewhere in the US and that program sounded better (coupon sales automatically ring with the card being swiped, so no need to scan/cut the coupons) so... I'm a bit confused with what we're actually getting.

I figure Saturday night will be like going into battle. :P But even if it is awful, I'll have my weekend to avoid things til being thrown back into the fire. Woo!

I don't want super long, or even long, nails. I just want mine to grow out a little longer so it's not as obvious I've been biting/ripping them off when I paint them. I base the length on the ring finger. When it's difficult to type, filed down/clipped off they go. But they grow in weird. For all I know everyone's grow in weird and I just missed the class on how to deal with it without whining. :P

I take back all my mockery/eye-rolling of the allergies in the past. I take it aaaaaaaaalllllll back.

LOL IDK - that program sounds like what Rite Aid's done with their program, in loading up their "reward" points/$$$ on the card automatically. Very helpful, especially since I found a good one =) The only downside is (I think) that you HAVE to use the rewards $$ on your next purchase, instead of being able to choose. Bleh, I like a bit of control.

Good luck! The Walgreens I hit today didn't seem to be having much issue with this, but then, they weren't terribly crowded...so who knows?

For all I know everyone's grow in weird

Pretty much :P though the only reason I ever knew anything about taking care of my nails is because I used to trail along with my mom when she'd get manicures. Plus I like all the pretty colors of nail polish, LOL.

I survived the night! I think. I'm a little vexed that I'd ask people and get the "...no" and then not twenty minutes later they'd come back in and let someone else sign them up. o_O

I like that BR doesn't make you use your rewards until you're ready (or until they're about to expire possibly?) which is better than the PSC card which forces you to use it the next time you swipe it for something. My poor little 8 cents!

Ahhh. Mums was not the manicure type so that and my nail biting that lasted entirely too long meant I know jack about nails. Other than I do love the pretty, pretty polishes.
